Skipper

Did you know ?

The first person to circumnavigate the world alone was Joshua Slocum (1898).

How can we help?

Configure AIS tracking

AIS tracking is possible if you have an MMSI number and an AIS transponder installed on board.

How does the tracking works ?

Based on the MMSI number you will provide, the system will search on the AIS network if a position has been reported. If the date of the last position on the AIS network is after the last position of your boat on Skipperblogs and if it is more than 1 nautical mile away from it, your position is updated on the map.

This process is repeated every 120 minutes and as long as tracking is enabled. You can disable tracking at any time and your position will no longer be updated.

The positions that are reported by your AIS device (on average every 30 seconds) between updates are not taken into account. Only the last position present on the AIS network at the time of the tracking update is taken into account. The geographical limit allows to avoid overpopulation of positions on your map when your boat does not move or not much (at the marina or at anchor), which also reduces the loading time of your website.

Configure the tracking

Go on the page AdministrationTracking AIS

Enter your 9-digits MMSI number and click on Test the configuration .

The system will then search for the last position recorded by the AIS network. If a position corresponding to the MMSI number is found, the last position is displayed on a map.

You can activate the tracking by clicking on the Activate tracking button. It is not mandatory to carry out this test of your MMSI number; you can directly activate the tracking after entering the number.
